Mosig Dermovsesian was born to Hilda and John Dermovsesian, a sculptor and homemaker in Beirut, Lebanon. During the civil war in Lebanon, his family fled to the states in 1976 to escape persecution.

While still in Lebanon, Mosig remembered his father sculpting away on marble creating his masterpieces for his clients. Watching the hammer come down on the chisel was an amazing experience to behold. From the hard stone, a beautiful image would eventually emerge after much labor.

When fleeing to America, Mosig would immerse himself with music and art. But his father would have preferred his son to become a doctor, an architect or some other profession, not an artist.
